My
Volunteer Programme in Salvador - Brazil
For my family,
friends and for those who have kindly supported me in this
worthwhile venture here is a weekly progress report of my
placement and how I am able to help in community led

A big
day for my students as I have organised, with the help of
the Placement and the School,
a visit to a very large Hotel here in Salvador. This type of
visit is very good as it gives the student an insight into
the Hotel environment as many want this type of work. They
were suitably impressed and I hope motivated to study
harder. Without a little English they would be unable to get
this type of job. One of our volunteers, Sajni, works in
Hotels and was able to explain many facets of Hotels as we
waited to be shown around. Hotel CONVENTO DO CARMO is a 500
year old Covent that has been converted into a very large
and grand 5 star Hotel. |

This
is my last day at Baixa De Alegria and I arrived at 8.30 as
usual for my last lesson only to find that my students had
prepared a lovely going away party. Food and drink had been
provided and a radio brought in for music, and of course,
Samba. What a lovely thoughtful crowd. We played their
favourite Bingo and then the Samba, and how the Brazilians
can Samba, from the young to the old. The all want me to
come back next year - well maybe |

Party time at Somando. Another great morning with my
students turning up with all sorts of food and drink. All
insisted in having new individual photos taken. Cristianos
arrived, again with his guitar. All have said that they have
learned a lot and all promised to continue with their
studies after I have left. I believe that the Hotel visit on
Monday has fired them up. I am beginning to believe that I
have in fact made a little difference. I will miss
them all as they have become my friends. |

GOODBYE SALVADOR
All good
things must come to an end and today I return home after 10
weeks of increditable experiences. I am proud and privileged
to have the opportunity of teaching those in need a little
English that will help them on their way to a successful
job.
I wish them well in their lives and hope that I have been
able to make a little difference. I have made many friends
here with students, Cross Cultural Staff and volunteers last
10 weeks the most wonderful experience of my life time.
