Time to catch up on E-mails, update the website and prepare
for the coming weeks lessons - now getting really difficult
as the students are beginning to string whole sentences
together.
This weekend was
election time in Salvador and the City heaved with people
and demonstrations with constant music - mainly Samba of
course - and Bahian music. Drum and percussion are very
popular here no doubt due to the African influence. The
celebrations went on well into the night.

Week 6 already and time seems to be flying. My students must
have had a great time last night as only a handful turned up
for both sessions spoiling all my carefully laid plans. As
the overall numbers have reduced it has been decided to
merge groups 1 & 2 into the morning session and start a
completely new group for the second session. All to commence
next Monday. Thus doubling my work load at one stroke. A
teachers lot is never done.

Baixa
de Alegria Placement. Cristina lost the keys to the Centre
and only 3 students turned up. The rest, no doubt, still
hung over from the weekend. The lady from across the
Alley offered me the use of her living room that I
gratefully accepted to keep the class going. Another
learning curve. The living room was very small and resembled
the inside of my garage - rough cast walls, concrete floor,
no window panes, just shutters, no decoration, no curtains
and just two well used double sofas and a single plastic
chair - and the required television. A humble residence that
was offered to me to help us. Words fail me at such kindness
and sincerity. |
